Solve Algebra 10 exercises on pages 41, 42 - Function y = ax+b
Exercise 1 (Math Textbook 10 pages 41, 42)
Solution:
Exercise 2 (Math Textbook 10 page 42)
Determine a, b for the graph of the function y = ax + b to pass through the points
Solution:
a) Substitute coordinates A, B into the function equation y = ax + b, we get:
=> Function equation: y = -5x + 3
b) Substitute coordinates A, B into the function equation y = ax + b, we get:
=> Function equation: y = -x + 3
c) Substitute coordinates A, B into the function equation y = ax + b, we get:
=> Function equation y = -3
Exercise 3 (Math Textbook 10 page 42)
Write the equation y = ax + b of the lines:
a) Passing through two points A (4;3) and B (2;-1)
b) Passing through point A (1;-1) and parallel to Ox
Solution:
a) Substitute coordinates A, B into the function equation y = ax + b, we get:
=> The equation of line AB is: y = 2x - 5.
b) The line parallel to Ox, so a = 0
=> The equation of this line is in the form y = b.
Moreover, the line passes through A(1;-1) => b = -1
Hence the equation of the line is: y = -1
Exercise 4 (Math Textbook 10 page 42)
Draw the graphs of the functions
