Guidance for solving exercise 1 on pages 105 and 106 of Math 5
Problem:
Calculate the land area with the depicted shape below, given
AD = 63m
AE = 84m
BE = 28m
GC = 30m
Solution Method:
Observing the given illustration, the land plot is divided into a rectangle AEGD and two triangles AEB and BGC. Perform the following calculations sequentially:
- Calculate the area of rectangle AEGD using the formula S = length x width
- Determine the length of side BG
- Calculate the areas of right triangles BGC and ABE using the formula: S = (base x height) / 2
- Find the land plot area by adding the total area of rectangle AEGD to the areas of triangles ABE and BGC.
Answer:
The area of rectangle AEGD is:
84 x 63 = 5292 (m2)
The length of side BG is:
28 + 63 = 91 (m)
The area of triangle BGC is:
91 x 30 / 2 = 1365 (m2)
The area of triangle ABE is:
84 x 28 / 2 = 1176 (m2)
The land plot area is:
5292 + 1365 + 1176 = 7833 (m2)
Result: 7833 (m2).
