Guidance on solving Exercise 5 on pages 150 and 151 of Math 5 textbook
Solution method:
Compare two decimal numbers:
- Compare the integer parts of the two numbers as if comparing two natural numbers. The decimal number with the larger integer part will be greater than the other number.
+ When the integer parts of the two numbers are equal: Move on to comparing the decimal parts, starting from the tenths place, then the hundredths place, thousandths place, etc. If the decimal number has larger digits in the corresponding places, then that number is greater.
+ When the integer and decimal parts of two numbers are identical, we conclude that those two decimal numbers are equal.
