Method of multiplying multi-digit numbers:
- Set up the multiplication vertically; place the first number on top and the second number below it so that the digits line up; place the multiplication sign in the middle between the two numbers on the left side; put a horizontal line under the second number 1 box away
- Multiply the first number with each digit of the second number from right to left.

Problem:
Calculate:
a) 1326 x 300; b) 3450 x 20; c) 1450 x 800.
Solution Method:
Perform multiplication as with regular natural numbers, then add one; two; three;... zeros after the result.
Answer:
a) 1326 x 300 = 397800;
b) 3450 x 20 = 69000;
c) 1450 x 800 = 1160000.
3. Solving exercise 3 on page 62 of Math textbook Grade 4
Problem:
A bag of rice weighs 50kg, a bag of corn weighs 60kg. A truck carries 30 bags of rice and 40 bags of corn. How many kilograms of rice and corn does the truck carry in total?
Solution Method:

+ 1 bag of corn: 60 kg
+ 1 truck: 30 bags of rice and 40 bags of corn
+ Total carried by the truck: ? kg of rice and corn
- Solution Approach:
+ Calculate the kilograms of rice the truck carries by multiplying the weight of one bag of rice by 30 bags
+ Calculate the kilograms of corn the truck carries by multiplying the weight of one bag of corn by 40 bags
+ Calculate the total kilograms of rice and corn the truck carries by adding the two results obtained above together.
Answer:
The truck carries kilograms of rice:
50 x 30 = 1500 (kg)
The truck carries kilograms of corn:
60 x 40 = 2400 (kg)
The truck carries a total of kilograms of rice and corn:
1500 + 2400 = 3900 (kg)
