Solution method:
We perform multiplication of a decimal number by 0.1; 0.01; 0.001;... and division of a decimal number by 10; 100; 100;... normally then compare the results of those two operations.

a) 12.9 ÷ 10 = 12.9 x 0.1 = 1.29 b) 123.4 ÷ 100 = 123.4 x 0.01 = 1.234
c) 5.7 ÷ 10 = 5.7 x 0.1 = 0.57 d) 87.6 ÷ 100 = 87.6 x 0.01 = 0.876
3. Solve problem 3 on page 66 of Math 5 textbook
Problem:
A rice warehouse has 537.25 tons of rice. One-tenth of the rice is taken out. How many tons of rice are left in the warehouse?
Solution method:
- Problem context: There are 537.25 tons of rice in the warehouse, one-tenth of which has been taken out
- Problem requirement: Find the remaining tons of rice in the warehouse
- Approach:
+ Calculate the tons of rice taken out by multiplying the tons of rice in the warehouse by 1/10
+ Calculate the remaining tons of rice in the warehouse by subtracting the tons of rice taken out from the initial tons of rice in the warehouse.
Answer:
The rice taken out is:
537.25 ÷ 10 = 53.725 (tons)
The remaining rice in the warehouse is:
537.25 - 53.725 = 483.525 (tons)
