Guidelines for solving exercises on pages 51, 52 Math 5 including solving methods
1. Solving exercise 1 on pages 51, 52 Math 5
Problem:
Calculate:
a) 5.27 + 14.35 + 9.25;
b) 6.4 + 18.36 + 52 ;
c) 20.08 + 32.91 + 7.15;
d) 0.75 + 0.09 + 0.8;
Solving method:
Method for adding three decimal numbers:
- Write the first number on the top line; the second number directly below the first number; the third number directly below the second number so that the numbers in the same column are aligned, the comma in each number should also be aligned.
- Place the addition sign to the left next to the second number
- Add like adding natural numbers, from right to left
- Place a horizontal line under the third number, 1 box away.
- Place a comma in the sum aligned with the comma of the three known summands.
2. Solving exercise 2 on pages 51, 52 Math 5
Solving method:
Students should remember the associative property of addition: When adding a sum of two numbers with a third number, we can also add the first number to the sum of the remaining two numbers, and their values remain unchanged.
3. Solving exercise 3 on pages 51, 52 SGK Math 5
Problem:
Use the commutative and associative properties to calculate:
a) 12.7 + 5.89 + 1.3 ;
b) 38.6 + 20.09 + 7.91 ;
c) 5.75 + 7.8 + 4.25 + 1.2 ;
d) 7.34 + 0.45 + 2.66 + 0.55
Solving method:
Students should remember:
- Commutative property of addition: a + b = b + a (when exchanging the addends in a sum, the value of the sum does not change)
- Associative property of addition: (a + b) + c = a + (b + c) (when we add the sum of the first and second numbers with the third number, we can also add the first number to the sum of the second and third numbers without changing their value.)
Answers:
a) 12.7 + 5.89 + 1.3
= (12.7 + 1.3) + 5.89
= 14 + 5.89
= 19.89
b) 38.6 + 20.09 + 7.91
= 38.6 + (2.09 + 7.91)
= 38.6 + 10
= 48.6
c) 5.75 + 7.8 + 4.25 + 1.2
= (5.75 + 4.25) + (7.8 + 1.2)
= 10 + 9
= 19
d) 7.34 + 0.45 + 2.66 + 0.55
= (7.34 + 2.66) + (0.45 + 0.55)
= 10 + 1
= 11.
