Solving Geography Exercise for 10th Grade: Industrial Sectors
Page 121 Geography 10 textbook:
Combining Table (page 121 - Textbook) with Figures 32.3, 32.4 (page 123 - Textbook), discuss the characteristics of the distribution of the oil industry and the electric industry worldwide.
* Instructions:
- The oil industry is predominantly distributed in developing countries in the Middle East, North Africa, China, Latin America, and in the Russian Arctic, where there are abundant oil reserves with large quantities.
- Electric industry: Concentrated mainly in developed and industrialized countries. Countries with the highest per capita electricity production are Norway, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Qatar, and the United States.
Exercise 1 (page 125 Geography 10 textbook):
Examine the changes in the structure of global energy consumption during the period 1940 - 2000. Explain.
* Instructions:
- The structure of energy consumption has undergone changes, with a decrease in the proportion of wood, coal; an increase in the proportion of oil, atomic energy, and new energy sources.
- Over the past centuries, humans have consumed coal, oil, and gas faster than they are formed. From 1990 onwards, each person on average consumed about 1.7 tons equivalent to oil per year, roughly 25 times their own weight.
- In the 20th century, due to the demands of the industrial revolution and industrialization, the energy industry took priority. The invention and widespread use of steam engines made coal the primary raw material. Later, oil, with its advantages in use and transport, replaced coal and became the dominant energy source. Subsequently, low-cost electricity production methods became the exclusive energy source. Continuous oil crises in many countries led to the exploration and use of nuclear energy.
- At the end of the 20th century, depletion of coal and oil, greenhouse gas effects, acid rain, and ocean pollution prompted humans to seek new, renewable, and clean energy sources (solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, etc.).
Exercise 2 (page 125 Geography 10 textbook):
Outline the roles of the black metallurgy industry and the colored metallurgy industry
* Instructions:
a) Roles of the black metallurgy industry:
- Virtually all economic sectors utilize products from the black metallurgy industry.
- It serves as the foundation for the development of machine manufacturing and the production of labor tools.
- Raw material for creating consumer goods.
- Supplies materials for the construction industry.
b) Roles of the colored metallurgy industry:
- Supplies materials for machine manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, machinery, and electrical technology.
- Supports the chemical industry and other national economic sectors (such as commerce, postal and telecommunications...).
- Precious and rare colored metals serve the electronics and atomic energy industries.
