Sony and Panasonic have recently joined hands to develop an 8K TV, with plans for its launch during the upcoming 2020 Olympics.

According to a report from Nikkei, tech giants Panasonic and Sony will collaborate with NHK (Japan) television stations and others to develop 8K resolution broadcasting technology. This resolution is four times sharper than 4K and eight times that of Full HD.
8K content trials took place during the Rio Olympics, featuring a small video segment showcasing J-pop star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

Nikkei reports that Sony is planning to release its first standalone 8K TV in 2020, while Panasonic has yet to make a move. These tech giants will work together in the coming time to develop 8K technology. Meanwhile, NHK television intends to broadcast 8K content on a large scale as early as 2018. However, even as Japan prepares for 8K technology by 2020, it remains relatively novel worldwide.
