Sony has officially unveiled 2 high-end music players, the Walkman NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2. Both products feature exquisite and luxurious designs, support High-Resolution Audio, and come with numerous powerful features to cater to both entertainment and professional music listening needs.
The Sony Walkman NW-WM1ZM2 features a frame made of 99.99% Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC 4N) material plated with extremely luxurious gold. This design delivers durability as well as allows for overall sound tuning to be more transparent with an incredibly wide soundstage.
The Walkman NW-WM1AM2 features an outer casing crafted from aluminum alloy, providing robustness while holding and helping to reduce electrical interference for optimal sound quality.
The NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 are equipped with S-Master™️ HX technology for faithful sound reproduction akin to stage or studio-quality audio, derived and developed from the flagship DMP-Z1 music player model. Sony NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 also possess a series of premium hardware components including specialized polymer capacitors FT-CAP3, OFC shielded wraps, KIMBER KABLE®️ (with the NW-WM1ZM2 model), and low-resistance OFC cables (with the NW-WM1AM2 model), thereby delivering impressive layer separation and extremely low distortion.
Both the NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 are integrated with dual-clock dual-oscillator circuitry to ensure accuracy in sound reproduction. Component solder joints are also gold-plated to deliver the highest possible audio performance.
The NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 are equipped with the DSD Remastering Engine algorithm to upscale PCM signals to DSD 11.2 MHz, as well as featuring DSEE Ultimate™️ technology to enhance lossy compressed music sources to CD-quality (16-bit 44.1/48kHz) or higher. Both devices also support balanced connections and High-Resolution Audio.
Both products run on the Android 11 operating system and have WiFi for direct music streaming from popular streaming services (via corresponding apps). NW–WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 utilize a 5-inch (12.7cm) HD touchscreen display allowing customization of the Walkman Home Screen interface according to user preferences.
Sony claims a battery life of approximately 40 hours of continuous playback with FLAC 96kHz music quality. The devices charge and transfer data via USB-C port.
The NW-WM1ZM2 boasts an impressive 256GB of internal storage, while the NW-WM1AM2 offers a still respectable 128GB. Both devices, however, continue to support microSD cards up to a whopping 2TB in capacity.
Expectedly, the NW-WM1ZM2 is set to hit shelves in April 2022 with a price tag of approximately €3700. Similarly, the NW-WM1AM2 will also debut around the same time with an expected price of about €1400.
