1. Sony Unveils New Technology for 2020 Sony 4K TVs
At the CES 2020 tech event, the new generation of Sony smart TVs has undoubtedly revealed new technology for the 2020 Sony 4K TVs

HDMI 2.1 in Sony 2020 TVs
As reported by FlatpanelsHD from CES 2020, two of Sony's new LCD TV models in 2020, the 8K Z8H and 4K X900H, will be equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting 4K quality at a frame rate of 120/s (4K120) and 8K resolution at a frame rate of 60/s (8K60).
With features like X-Wide Angle technology expanding screen sizes from 55 inches to 65 inches, X950H and Z8H also support the built-in Google Assistant for voice-activated content searches.

Furthermore, X900H will be the first Sony Smart TV to support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) of HDMI 2.1. Specifically, VRR has the ability to adjust and change the frame rate, providing a smoother gaming experience without lag when using a computer or game controller.
ALLM allows the TV to automatically switch to 'Game' mode when it detects you initiating a game via HDMI. These features will be added to the X900H model through a software update in the near future.
However, Sony's OLED A8 TV and LCD models X950H and X850H won't feature HDMI 2.1 with the aforementioned functions. Instead, they will support a different feature on HDMI 2.0 called eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel).
This feature will support audio formats like Dolby TrueHD (with/without Atmos) and DTS-HD MA (with/without DTS:X). HDMI eARC is also supported in most 2020 Sony TVs and some earlier models of affordable Sony TVs.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
4K120 and VRR have the potential to significantly enhance gaming experiences, especially with next-gen gaming consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The good news for gamers is that both these gaming consoles are confirmed to support 4K120. Xbox One S and One X additionally support ALLM, while PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro do not.

Therefore, if you own either of these gaming consoles along with an AV surround sound system, quickly update your TV's HDMI 2.1 port to avoid missing out on 4K120 and VRR. This ensures a more vibrant and smoother audio-visual experience compared to budget-friendly TVs.
Acoustic Surface Technology
The unique Acoustic Surface Technology integrated into Sony's 4K TVs turns the entire screen into a massive speaker. This innovation reproduces sound through the display panel, making audio effects more vivid and captivating. It also allows the TV to maintain its slim profile.

Unlike most other TV speakers, Sony's latest technology utilizes the TV screen as a speaker. The OLED screen's vibration control is dedicated to mid and high frequencies, while the subwoofer handles the low frequencies. From dialogues to melodies, you'll experience a wide audio spectrum emanating from the entire screen, providing users with a truly novel, engaging, and exciting audio experience.
