Sony introduces its cutting-edge TV lineup with the ZD9 model. This series boasts sizes ranging from 65 to 100 inches and incorporates the 'Backlight Master Drive' technology, delivering exceptional HDR contrast and powered by Android TV.

This year, Sony's Z series (ZD9) takes the crown as the brand's highest-end TV lineup, replacing the X series (X9400/X9300). Sony marks the 'Z' brand as a significant leap forward in display technology.

Sony's new TV lineup features a completely redesigned and exquisite design language from every angle. The ZD9 comes in three size options: 65 inches, 75 inches, and 100 inches. The 100-inch version offers the choice between a tabletop stand or floor mount, while the other two options come with a tabletop stand only.

All TVs in this series are equipped with the Backlight Master Drive technology showcased at CES 2016. Sony representatives at CES revealed that the prototype version of Backlight Master Drive could achieve brightness up to 4000 nits, delivering impressive HDR images.
Backlight Master Drive is the key technology in the new TV lineup, touted by Sony as capable of delivering 'impressive contrast and extremely accurate color reproduction' when displaying HDR content. The company stated that Backlight Master Drive will not use local dimming methods (comprising multiple LED clusters) like traditional full-array LED backlight TVs, instead, individual LEDs will be controlled separately.

Additionally, Sony will employ the latest image processing unit called '4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme', with real-time image processing capabilities 40% stronger than the current 4K X1 processor integrated into the current X series 4K TVs. The new processor will also add three new technologies: Object-based HDR remaster, Dual database processing, and Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR.
The Sony ZD9 is set to be released in Europe with prices of 5,000 euros (65 inches), 7,000 euros (75 inches), and 70,000 euros (100 inches) in August/September. Meanwhile, in the US market, the ZD9 will be named Z9D and will offer a 65-inch version (6999 USD) and a 75-inch version (9999 USD) in the summer.
