Excel now provides you with sorting tools, allowing you to organize your data in your Excel 2016 file.
In the following article, I'll guide you on sorting names alphabetically and sorting in ascending order.
HOW TO ORGANIZE DATA IN EXCEL 2016
1. Sorting data alphabetically in ABC order.
When you want to sort names alphabetically, you need to separate names into a separate column. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the data sheet you want to sort, then select the range you want to sort.
Step 2: On the toolbar, click on the Data tab and choose the Sort command or the A-Z command.
Step 3: A new window interface will appear. You can choose a column to sort by. Since I'm sorting by name here, I select Name under the Sort by section.
In the Order section, you can choose from A to Z or vice versa Z to A. Finally, click OK to finish.
Immediately, your data table will be updated. You'll see the entire list sorted accordingly, with names in alphabetical ABC order. And the Last Name, Class, Birth Year will also automatically adjust according to Name.
2. Sorting Data in Ascending or Descending Order
With this method, you'll sort numbers either in ascending or descending order. For example, in the image below, we need to sort Birth Year in ascending or descending order.
To sort the data table in ascending/descending order, you follow similar steps as sorting names alphabetically. However, at Step 3, you proceed with the following smaller steps:
Step 1: Under Sort by, select Birth Year. Under Order, choose one of the suitable options from small to large or large to small. Then, click OK to complete.
Step 2: The result will be displayed as shown in the interface below:
