Design, Comfort, and Battery Life
Unlike some other models from the same brand, SoundPEATS T2 comes with a pocketable charging case, easily sliding into your jeans pocket. It can recharge the earbuds three times before needing its own recharge, achievable via USB-C. Three LED lights on the front indicate the charging status of the case.
The earbud design is unremarkable, but their oval shape with a slight inner bulge conforms to your ear shape, ensuring comfort during extended wear. The case may be slightly heavy - the earbuds themselves are not. The earbuds may shift slightly when you shake your head, but they can still perform well, and the sound remains unaffected. Furthermore, they boast IPX7 water resistance – meaning they can withstand heavy rain, sweat, and even a shower.
Once again, battery life is a standout feature of SoundPEATS T2. With ANC off (the default setting), usage time extends up to 9 hours on a single charge. Turning ANC on reduces the score by almost half, but it's still an impressive score.
Connectivity and Controls
SoundPEATS T2 is easily controlled via the touch panel on the circular center of the earbud.
- Press R to increase volume
- Press L to decrease volume
- Double-tap on L or R to play/pause
- Hold R to skip to the next track
- Hold L to switch between Transparent mode, ANC on, and ANC off
- Triple-tap on L or R to activate voice assistant
The control mechanism of T2 may take some time to get used to, but it works well. The only thing missing is the option to go back to the previous track.
The connectivity on SoundPEATS T2 is robust, with strong Bluetooth signals reaching up to ten meters away from your device. It also performs well in crowded areas with wireless signals. You can also seamlessly switch between using both or a single earbud, such as when you want to charge one bud in the case.
Noise Cancellation Performance of SoundPEATS T2
By default, SoundPEATS T2 doesn't activate ANC. The standard setting is 'off' and that's good; when you're listening to music at moderate volume, T2 will eliminate most surrounding noise. With just a 2-second touch on the left earbud, you'll switch to Passthrough/Transparency mode; with another 2 seconds, ANC mode will kick in.
Because the earbuds conform to your ear shape, they already block out a lot of environmental noise when ANC is off. With Active Noise Cancellation activated, brighter and closer sound effects like higher-pitched voices will be attenuated. Some effects may still be audible - such as keyboard typing on your laptop or people talking nearby.
The mode that SoundPEATS calls 'Passthrough' works well. It emphasizes brighter mid-range sounds from your surroundings, making you hear voices and surrounding traffic. This feature works when you're listening to music at low to moderate volumes, but it also generates noise from strong winds, making it uncomfortable to use when walking or biking.
SoundPEATS T2 offers pleasant sound
SoundPEATS T2 puts most of its effort into lower frequencies – deep and rich sound in this range. However, the connection between mid-bass and sub-bass isn't tight, so it can be a bit muddy sometimes. The T2's upper-mids are enhanced but not too strong, combined with the bass range to create a warm, smooth sound color. T2's highs reach the threshold early, slightly forward, somewhat thin, sounding very clear but sometimes a bit harsh.
Conclusion
Warm and comfortable sound, excellent call quality, and outstanding battery life: without the strange sound effects in the powerful active noise cancellation feature, SoundPEATS T2 would be a blast.
