Hey everyone, I'm Hà Anh. Today, I'll be presenting my thoughts on the speaking and listening: Introduction and Evaluation of Content and Artistry of 'Ripe Spring'.
Hey guys, I'm sure each of us has read or studied a poem about spring, right? I remember we've studied excerpts from 'Scenes of Spring' (from 'The Tale of Kieu' - Nguyen Du) and the poem 'Tiny Spring' by poet Thanh Hai. Today, I'm going to introduce you to another poem also about spring, found in the literature textbook 10 - Connecting knowledge with life. That's the poem 'Ripe Spring' by author Han Mac Tu.
Reading the title of the poem, I see a subtle combination between the noun 'spring' and the verb indicating a state 'ripe'. That title has made me imagine the scene of a beautiful and vibrant spring. The emotional flow of the poem goes from external scenes to internal ones. This emotional flow is vividly depicted through poetic imagery and sophisticated language.
Firstly, in the first stanza, poetic images like 'sunshine glows', 'vague smoke dissolves', 'spring shadows shine' have evoked a warm spring scene. The personification of the wind 'teases the blue robe' combined with the phrase 'lightly rustling' and the inversion 'Lightly rustling, the wind teases the blue robe' shows the poet's subtlety in observation when spring arrives. The wind is no longer an inanimate object but becomes lively with tender sounds, teasing the blue robe. Moreover, the metaphorical expression 'spring shadows shine' also contributes to describing the gentle posture of spring.
Amidst the vibrant nature of spring appears the image of a person 'Many village girls singing on the hill'. Listening to that song, the sentimental character becomes more regretful at the youthfulness of the girl '- Tomorrow amidst that green spring,/ Some will follow husbands, leaving the game behind'. The metaphor 'green spring' combined with phrases like 'tumultuous', 'stretching' and personification 'the melodious song stretching', simile 'as tumultuous as the words of flowing water' have brought out the charm of the girl. That beauty blends into the deep, sincere song, as if accentuating the vibrant nature scene.
Especially, in the last stanza, I feel the character's mood sinking - 'a distant guest'. The phrase 'vaguely' evokes a mixed feeling, with a touch of sadness and regret in the heart. But then, the sentimental character undergoes a sudden emotional change when 'suddenly' remembering the village and '- She, this year still carries rice/ Along the white sunny riverbank?'. The final question of the poem along with the non-specific pronoun 'she' has depicted the loneliness, disappointment, and the longing for the homeland of poet Han Mac Tu.
Through the poem 'Ripe Spring', I see the uniqueness in artistic form such as language organization and unique poetic imagery, combined with many personification techniques, rhyme schemes ('golden-shine', 'sky-play',...). Besides, the poem has painted a picture of spring from materials like sound, imagery, vivid colors of nature and people. Reading the poem, we can't help but be moved by the poet's passionate love for nature along with the desire to commune with life, with people of poet Han Mac Tu.
My presentation ends here. Thank you, everyone, for listening.
