Sample Essay Reflecting on the Legend of Dragon Offspring and Fairy Grandchild
Our childhood memories are often intertwined with the lullabies sung by our grandmothers and mothers, and the enchanting tales that transport us to magical lands. One such captivating story is the legend of The Dragon and The Fairy Descendant, narrating the noble origins of the Vietnamese people.
The Dragon and The Fairy Descendant is a renowned myth in the rich tapestry of Vietnamese folklore. The tale unfolds with Lac Long Quan, symbolizing the Dragon, residing in the riverine landscapes. Lac Long Quan, revered as a deity, undertakes heroic feats such as conquering the seas, expanding territories, subduing Sea Genies, Wood Genies, and Lake Genies, all to safeguard the peaceful lives of the people and the nation.
This is a beautiful love story between two individuals who are exemplary in every aspect, from their lineage to their outward appearance. Soon after, Lac Long Quan and Au Co must part ways due to differences in their personalities, habits, and the lifestyles of two beings belonging to different lineages—one a Dragon and the other a Fairy. Consequently, they decide to split their hundred children, fifty with the mother into the mountains and fifty with the father into the sea.
The separation marks the beginning of the dichotomy in the destinies of their offspring, creating two distinct communities that carry the essence of both Dragon and Fairy lineage. This legendary tale not only weaves a narrative of love and sacrifice but also lays the foundation for the diverse and harmonious identity of the Vietnamese people.
