Spotify experiments with vertical video viewing feature like TikTok

According to TechCrunch, Spotify is testing a new feature called Discover, allowing users to scroll through a vertical video data feed and interact by liking videos, similar to how they do on TikTok.

Discovered by Chris Messina, this new feature is currently available in the latest Spotify beta build for iPhone, providing users with a more visual and quicker way to discover music through simple swiping gestures similar to TikTok. Additionally, users can tap the heart icon to like a song or tap the three-dot icon to display standard Spotify song info.

The videos displayed in the data feed are part of the Canvas feature, which allows Spotify to showcase short videos instead of album art.

Spotify isn't the first platform to 'mimic' TikTok features. Previously, features on major platforms like Instagram's Reels or YouTube Shorts have also been seen as 'copies' of features on this social video platform. Or most recently, Netflix's Fast Laughs feature.

Although Spotify has confirmed it's testing the new Discover feature, it's unclear whether/when the feature will be rolled out to all users.
