As of September 15, tourists must officially adhere to the rule of not bringing plastic bags and disposable plastic items to Coto Island, Quang Ninh.
Starting from September 15, it is prohibited to bring plastic bags and single-use plastic items to Coto Island.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Coto District, revealed that the District People's Committee has officially approved the plan to protect the marine environment. Specifically, from September 15, all passengers are not allowed to carry plastic bags and single-use plastic items that may cause environmental pollution to Coto Island.

Previously, the Coto District government experimented with advising tourists for a year. The results showed a significant improvement in the marine and island environment. Concurrently, residents and authorities collaborated to regularly clean up waste at beaches and roads, collecting wastewater for treatment, contributing to the increasing cleanliness of the sea around Coto Island.

Coto Island encourages tourists not to bring plastic bags and single-use plastic items when visiting the island. Right from the pier, guests will receive guidance on using environmentally friendly paper and biodegradable bags, reducing plastic waste such as bottles and single-use plastic bags on the island by up to 50%. However, there are still individuals, particularly fishermen on certain fishing boats, lacking environmental awareness.
In the most recent incident on August 22, while a fishing boat was anchored in the waters of Coto Island, a large turtle was spotted swimming near the boat and gradually approaching the sandy shore. At present, the turtles have begun their nesting season, choosing clean sandy beaches to lay eggs during the night. Consequently, the marine environment in Coto Island is progressively improving, becoming cleaner after the implementation of local environmental protection activities. Especially noteworthy is the campaign to reduce plastic waste, restoring cleanliness to the sea around Coto Island.
