The release of over 14,000 games in the year also helped assert Steam's unrivaled position in the gaming market.
According to SteamDB, an independent website analyzing Steam's activities, 14,535 unique games debuted on the platform in 2023, marking an increase of nearly 2,000 games compared to 2022.

The release of over 14,000 games in the year also helped assert Steam's unrivaled position in the gaming market. Note that the second spot among publishing platforms currently belongs to Nintendo. However, the Japanese game publisher only managed to update 2,360 games in 2023, just 16% of Steam's total.
Comparing to the previous decade, Steam's growth rate is staggering. In 2013, this game distribution platform had only 435 games. Five years later, Steam reached 8,900 games by 2018.

SteamDB's report indicates that Steam's growth rate shows no signs of slowing down in 2024. Despite the new year being only a few days old, Steam has already welcomed over 100 new games of all genres, from indie to AAA blockbusters.
It's now evident that Steam's dominant position in the game distribution market is stronger than ever. The 'followers' like Epic Game Store or the 'front-runners' like EA and Nintendo will continue to lag far behind.
