1. Prepare for installing Windows 7 on a virtual drive
- A computer with minimum specifications: 9GB hard drive, 512MB RAM. Already installed with any operating system, able to boot into Windows, not infected with virus blocking .exe files.
- An installation file with .iso extension of Windows 7 operating system (e.g., Windows 7.iso)
- Virtual drive creation software: PowerISO, UltraISO, etc. In this article, Mytour uses PowerISO. Install PowerISO on your computer like any other software.
- The partition for installing Windows 7 on the virtual drive must be formatted as NTFS.
If not formatted as NTFS, press Start/Run(Window + R), type CMD, and press
convert [partition]:/fs:ntfs (With [partition] being the partition to convert)
For example: convert C:/fs:ntfs
Then the screen will display “Enter the current volume label for driver C:” you enter the name of drive C, for example, Windows 7. Finally, when the process is complete, restart the computer.
2. Proceed with installing Windows 7 on the virtual drive
- Open My Computer then right-click on the virtual drive created by PowerISO, navigate to PowerISO and select “Mount Image to Drive [G:]
- Then navigate to the ISO file of the Windows 7 operating system setup.
- Open the virtual drive to check the Windows 7 setup files, you will see that all files are preserved intact.
- Double-click on the setup.exe file to begin installing Windows 7. The installation interface appears, click on Install now
- Choose the installation language as shown in the image and click Next
- Wait for a moment, select “I accept the license terms” and then click “Next”
- Select Custom (Advange) instead of Upgrade (because we are installing anew)
- Choose the installation partition (you can overwrite the existing partition or install on a new one) then click Next/OK
- The installation process begins and you just need to wait until it completes. Your computer will restart, and you can smoothly experience Windows 7 operating system.
