Summary of the story:
- The Village (Kim Lân)
The story is about Mr. Hai, who lives in Chợ Dầu village. He is deeply attached to and loves his hometown. Due to family life and the resistance war, he has to leave the village. One day, hearing that the village has surrendered to the enemy, he feels shocked, ashamed, and humiliated. In despair and pain, he confides in his youngest child to ease his heart. Then one day, receiving news of the correction, Mr. Hai is overjoyed. Despite his house being burned, he happily boasts and talks about the village as before.
- Silence in Sa Pa (Nguyễn Thành Long)
On the journey from Hanoi to Lào Cai, an elderly painter, a bus driver, and a young female engineer coincidentally meet. The bus driver introduces the elderly painter and the female engineer to the young meteorologist working on Yên Sơn peak at an altitude of 2600 meters. The young man invites the painter and the girl to visit his living and working place. Here, the elderly painter and the female engineer recognize the beauty of silent laborers against the quiet backdrop of Sa Pa. The elderly painter always seeks ideal images for his painting but only manages to sketch the basic lines of the young man.
- The Ivory Comb (Nguyễn Quang Sáng):
Mr. Sáu is a veteran who has been away from home for many years due to the resistance war. Only when peace is restored does he have the opportunity to return home. Little Thu doesn't recognize him as her father because of the scars on his face. When the father-daughter love awakens, Mr. Sáu has to leave again. In the base area, he channels his longing and paternal love into making an ivory comb for his daughter. During an enemy ambush, he sacrifices himself. Mr. Sáu manages to pass the comb to his friend to give to little Thu.
