Summary of 'The Distant Boat'
1. Synopsis of 'The Distant Boat', Model 1 (Standard):
Assigned with the task of capturing early morning seaside scenes for a Tet calendar, photographer Phung decided to return to the old beach where he once fought in the war. After several days of work, on a beautiful morning, Phung witnessed a violent scene involving a fisherman's family. Shocked by the injustice, Phung intervened to protect the abused woman. Learning of her plight, Phung decided to stay and help her divorce her abusive husband, despite completing the calendar. However, the woman refused their help, kneeling and begging not to leave her husband.
However, to the surprise of both Phung and Đẩu, the woman refused the assistance of the two, even kneeling and pleading not to leave her husband. Initially, both Phung and Đẩu were extremely surprised, unable to understand the actions and words of the woman. However, after listening to her story, Phung and Đẩu suddenly understood all the complexities and intricacies of life because what the woman needed was not to escape from her abusive husband but a solution to make life for her and her husband less miserable, so that her children could have enough food to eat and a proper home. It was also from the woman's story that Phung suddenly realized the relationship between art and life, recognizing the responsibility of the artist in artistic creation.
2. Synopsis of 'The Distant Boat', Model 2 (Standard) :
To complete the Tet calendar photo set, artist Phung returned to a Central coastal beach where he once fought. After days of observation and work, Phung finally captured satisfying photos. However, amidst the beautiful scenery of the pink morning mist and picturesque seascape, Phung witnessed a family tragedy among the fishermen. A violent husband, a submissive wife, and a child acting out of love for his mother, all struck Phung, a former soldier, as unacceptable brutality. Despite finishing the photos, Phung decided to stay and assist the woman, only to be surprised by her refusal to leave her husband.

To fulfill the office's request for a Tet seaside calendar, Phung returned to the Central coastal region where he once fought. After days of searching, Phung finally encountered a picturesque scene and captured valuable photos. While engrossed in artistic creation, Phung stumbled upon the violence within a fisherman's family. Not only did he intervene to protect the abused woman from her husband's blows, but he also decided to stay for a few days with Judge Daau to assist the woman in divorcing her husband. However, the woman's refusal of their help, even kneeling to avoid leaving her husband, puzzled Phung and Daau. Yet, after her explanation, they realized the complexities of life. Phung understood the need for a deep, multi-dimensional perspective on life rather than a superficial view based on appearances.

Upon arrival, he witnesses a man beating a woman, who merely endures, and their child, out of love and a desire to protect the mother, fights back against his father. In the following days, the incident continues, and Phung intervenes but is injured by the man.
Chief Judge Dau invites the woman to the district court, advising her to leave her husband, but she adamantly refuses. The woman begins to recount her life and explains the reason her husband turned out this way due to poverty. Through the story, Phung and Dau gain many life lessons.
