A concise breakdown in 3 parts of The Tale of Kieu:
Essay:
During the Ming dynasty in the Gia Tin period, Mr. and Mrs. Vương Viên, residing outside of Bắc Kinh, were blessed with three children—two daughters and a son:
'A son, the third poured blessing,
Vương Quan, a prominent name in the family of Confucian scholars.
With two daughters, fair and charming,
Thúy Kiều, the elder sister, and Thúy Vân, her younger counterpart.'
The two sisters, Kiều, possessed beauty that was described as 'each with a distinct charm, perfect in every aspect', and they had reached the age of marriage.
In that spring, the three sisters went out for a serene outing. As they returned, with the shadows of evening descending, they encountered the literary gentleman Kim Trong - 'graceful indoors, splendid outdoors.' After that fateful encounter, Kiều and Kim Trọng fell in love, pledging to be inseparable. Kim Trọng received a letter from home, hastening his return to Liêu Dương to 'mourn the deceased.'

Response:
The Tale of Kieu comprises 3246 verses in the lục bát form, starting with 'In the Gia Tĩnh year of the Ming dynasty, the four directions were calm, and the two capitals were stable and prosperous.' According to legend, after completion, Nguyễn Du submitted it to his old teacher, Nguyễn Hành, for review. Hành added only eight opening verses to introduce the 'destiny and talent harmony' theory: 'A hundred years in the realm of human affairs; talent and destiny, cleverly despising each other; experiencing a bitter sea voyage; visible pains causing heartache; strange are the biased preferences for beauty; accustomed to azure skies, pink cheeks envying; the fragrance of poems read by the lamp; ancient love stories still echo in green history.' Including these eight additional verses, The Tale of Kieu consists of 3254 verses and can be divided into the following three main parts:
Thúy Kiều's intuitive sense of a fateful life
Kieu's transformative journey through the winding road of fate
Escaping the entanglements of life's tumultuous path
