Thai Nguyen is famed for its dreamy Nui Coc Lake, with the delightful scent of tea… But there's more to this land, boasting many hidden natural wonders.
Refresh yourself this summer with Cua Tu Stream
Cua Tu – the name alone sends shivers down the spine, yet it's a magnet for adventurous souls seeking exploration, especially on scorching days.
Cua Tu Stream is situated approximately 45 km from downtown Thai Nguyen, in Hoang Nong commune, Dai Tu district. The commune lies to the west of the district and is part of the Tam Dao mountain range, adjacent to the highest peak of this range (1,590 m). It also marks the tri-border area between the provinces of Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, and Tuyen Quang. A stream flows from the Tam Dao range down the length of the commune before joining the Cong River, and that's Cua Tu.
Hoang Nong commune features relatively complex terrain. The hills are steep, interspersed with narrow plains adorned with colorful vegetable fields, and picturesque terraced rice fields nestled in the heart of the commune, alongside a network of ponds, lakes, and dams scattered across the hamlets.

Unlock the mystery of Cua Tu Stream
The only way to access Cua Tu Stream is by trekking along the stream's edge. The initial path is relatively easy, but there are sections where you'll have to wade through icy water, about 15-20 degrees Celsius, up to 1.5 meters deep. Once you navigate through the deep water, you'll encounter giant rocks blocking the path. Without makeshift ladders crafted by locals, you'll surely be unable to overcome this obstacle.

The water meanders through rocky crevices, sometimes cascading down like miniature waterfalls. Many rocks have been eroded into peculiar shapes by the water, creating fascinating formations.
As you venture deeper, the forest becomes more desolate. Ancient trees line the stream, their roots protruding like the claws of death. In the cold, desolate air of the wilderness, amidst the whispering of the ancient forest, your soul is occasionally uplifted by the vibrant colors of fluttering butterflies and the sounds of wild animals frolicking nearby.

Perhaps the most thrilling sensation for thrill-seekers is traversing slippery rock faces and crossing narrow bridges suspended over rushing waterfalls. The water at Cua Tu is crystal clear, allowing visibility to the bottom even in the deepest parts. On a hot sunny day, immersing yourself in the cool, refreshing water here will rejuvenate you after a long exploration journey.
Due to the challenges posed by Cua Tu, the area still retains its rustic and untouched beauty. After a long 3-km trek upstream, a majestic waterfall comes into view. The cool mist from the waterfall invigorates you further. Here, you can rest on the towering rocks and admire the majestic, untouched landscape.
The mysterious beauty of the stream holds the promise of becoming a captivating tourist destination for adventurous youth and nature enthusiasts, also serving as an effective cooling spot for the scorching summer days in the North.
