Contrary to many predictions, Weibo has not parted ways with any players from the former Suning team.
On the morning of November 22nd (Vietnam time), the esports team Suning was officially announced to change its name to Weibo Gaming. This was a long-rumored deal, and there were many signs indicating its certainty, such as SN members transitioning to a new gaming house with Weibo's logo replacing SN's throughout the building... The Weibo WBG account also posted an announcement about this name change, which reads as follows:
'The Suning team will officially change its name to Weibo Gaming (abbreviated as WBG), effective immediately. As a completely new project of the Weibo Esports Club, the WBG League of Legends team upholds the team spirit with the slogan 'Born To Win,' constantly surpassing ourselves, persevering towards the initial goal, and being ready for new challenges.
Additionally, this announcement also reveals that Weibo's League of Legends and Hearthstone teams will share the same new headquarters. With all 5 former SN members present on the poster, SN fans can perhaps rest assured that there will be no departures as previously rumored.
At the current moment, most teams are busy reshuffling their rosters, so the fact that all 5 SN players are featured on the poster may suggest a positive direction, indicating that the new management also wants to give the old lineup a chance in the upcoming Spring 2022 season because assessing the players' abilities through a tournament like NEST is not enough. Any changes, if any, will likely only occur after the conclusion of the Spring 2022 season. Moreover, the current SN lineup is quite fragile, so if only new names are brought in and the old ones are pushed out, they still won't be able to improve the depth of the roster at all, which is quite dangerous considering LPL is a tough league, not to mention MSI and Worlds.
Therefore, the Runner-up of Worlds 2020 has officially changed its name. A new journey awaits SofM and his teammates. With strong investment from WBG, former SN fans, especially SofM fans in Vietnam, surely hope to see 'The Jungle God' SofM and his teammates recreate their achievements from the 2022 season and perhaps even surpass them by claiming the championship title.
