Super affordable hotpot at 159k/2 people, packed with oxtail, tripe, corn, and beef marrow

A family of 2 can fill up on a pot of hotpot for 159k, add a side of steamed wild goat and vegetables for 99k, and be full for the entire evening, averaging less than 130k/person (if not ordering drinks)

That day, my fiancé decided to splurge and took me to Sesan for a meal. Normally, we are very careful with our money, so we usually only go to budget restaurants. Sesan looks like an ancient villa in the middle of a garden, with mountains, waterfalls, and a seafood pond. It looks expensive at first glance…

It was quite crowded when I arrived at Sesan

However, upon looking at the menu, we found that this restaurant also has incredibly cheap dishes. We ordered a pot of Can Long Dai Bo hotpot for 159k and a plate of steamed wild goat with vegetables for 99k. We thought that would be enough, but we ended up not needing to order anything else because we were so full!

I heard that Sesan specializes in seafood and goat meat, but the seafood dishes are quite expensive so I didn't dare to order them. I was prepared for the 159k hotpot to be a bit expensive, but when it arrived, it was really worth it, surprising both of us.

I have to admit, at first, Nguyen thought the hotpot looked a bit small, but before we could get bored, we saw the handsome server, dressed like an airline steward, bringing several plates of ingredients to the table.

The hotpot broth can be enhanced with herbs and Chinese medicine. The dipping plate is very generous

The dipping plate is quite generous, with oxtail, beef belly, beef tendons, and beef marrow. The vegetable plate is a plus, with each vegetable carefully selected, so you won't find any old or wilted pieces, making eating much more convenient.

Vegetables for dipping and accompanying noodles

This hotpot comes with noodles, not instant noodles but rolled noodles, firm and chewy. A plate contains about 7 large rolls, soaked in sweet, fragrant broth with Chinese herbs, and simmered bone broth, quite flavorful.

With beef, bones, and Chinese herbs, Can Long Dai Bo hotpot is very nutritious and stimulates the taste buds, making it more enjoyable. If you're a bit picky about food, you should order this hotpot instead of others.

Steamed wild goat with vegetables for 99k

This dish is said to be a specialty of Sesan, always associated with the brand. The price is not expensive compared to the quality of service and the beautiful, cool seating area of this place.

The plate of steamed wild goat is quite large, with the meat arranged in two layers, plenty of lean meat, steamed just right with ginger and scallions, so the meat is fragrant and not smelly, avoiding the gamey smell of buffalo or beef. The meat is evenly sliced, looking neat and a bit funny, as if it were all molded from the same mold.

The vegetables for wrapping with the meat include betel leaves and some types of wild vegetables that I don't know the name of but are lush green. Wrap the meat and these vegetables together with rice paper and dip in fish sauce dip, and you're done.

Although I have eaten a lot of buffalo, beef, and goat meat, mainly as snacks or with rice, wrapping wild vegetable rice paper like this is still a first for me. But I really liked the taste. It has the sweet taste of meat, the fresh taste of vegetables, the savory fish sauce dip, the spicy kick, and the chewy rice paper, truly living up to its reputation as a famous dish of the restaurant.

I recommend trying this dish if you visit Sesan!

Some small tips when dining at Sesan:

- The prices listed in the menu do not include VAT, so you will have to add another 10% to the total. Luckily, I reserved a table in advance and got a 10% discount, so it balanced out.
