II. Sample Essay: Narrating a Story of Filial Piety
1. Sharing a Tale of Filial Piety, Example 1:
Filial piety is a beautiful ethical tradition of our nation from ancient times to the present. Children must practice filial piety towards their grandparents and parents because without them, we wouldn't exist in this world. I've encountered numerous stories of filial piety and have witnessed firsthand children demonstrating filial devotion to their parents.
Chị Nga is the daughter of Uncle Năm and Aunt Oanh. This year, she just turned 18, having graduated from high school. However, she couldn't pursue university education due to her family's challenging circumstances. Chị Nga's mother is suffering from a heart condition, and her father, a construction worker, lost an arm in a scaffold accident. Currently, he can only handle light tasks at home. With the family facing these challenges, Nga decided to take on extra work. After returning from work, she takes care of everything at home – cooking, cleaning, and caring for her parents. She uses her earnings to buy medicine for her mother and nutritious food for her parents. Nga never thinks about buying things for herself. Her friends who go to school and enjoy their youth no longer concern her. She focuses on earning money to support her family and assist her parents.
I hold a deep affection for Sister Nga, deeply moved by her filial piety towards her parents. She is a shining example for me to emulate in showing filial devotion to my own parents.
2. Sharing a Tale of Filial Piety, Example 2:
Stories of filial piety, often found in newspapers and books, seem elusive in real life. However, these tales unfold right next to my home.
Next to my house is Mrs. Tứ's residence. She moved here for work and lives with her son, Niên, since her husband passed away. Niên is over 20 years old, a healthy and obedient young man, very filial to his mother. Every day, he wakes up early to prepare breakfast for his mother, goes to the market to buy food, and only then goes to work. Mrs. Tứ, due to leg pain, has difficulty moving around, so Niên often advises her not to go out when he is not at home. Every time he returns from work, Niên calls his mother, asking her how her day was. Then, he helps his mother take a bath. After that, he cooks, does laundry, and takes care of everything around the house. Mrs. Tứ is proud of her son, always talking about him. She only hopes that Niên will find a wife soon to share the responsibilities. However, Niên is afraid that his future wife may not treat his mother well.
I greatly admire Niên, a contrast to those spoiled sons who only indulge in pleasure and trouble their parents. Learning from Niên is akin to learning the true essence of being a filial child.
3. Sharing a Tale of Filial Piety, Example 3:
In the market near my house, there is a family consisting of only a grandmother and her granddaughter. The granddaughter's profound filial piety has become the talk of the town, leaving everyone in awe and admiration.
This is the family of Granny Khoái and her daughter Lê. Granny Khoái has a sole son who, due to challenging circumstances, got married and had a daughter named Lê. Unfortunately, the couple separated, leaving the son to abandon his elderly mother and young daughter for distant work, never to return. In their home, the two generations lean on each other. During hardships, they seek help from neighbors. Fortunately, Lê is exceptionally filial. She cares deeply for her grandmother, always obedient and diligent. She has never argued with her grandmother. Whenever she brings home something delicious, she ensures her grandmother eats first. When working for others, she rushes home to cook and take care of her grandmother. Once, when Granny Lê fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalized, Lê took care of her during the day and worked at night to earn money. Despite the hardships, she never complained. She always encouraged her grandmother to stay happy and healthy.
Chị Lê is a name frequently mentioned, often cited as a shining example whenever discussing filial piety. I remind myself to learn and strive, to be even more filial to my grandparents and parents.
