On July 30th, the Thai government directed the 'isolation' of Phuket from the rest of the country as the number of Covid-19 infections hits a record high.
Thailand Isolates Phuket after 30 Days of Unlocking Experiment
In early July, the Thai government initiated a plan named “Phuket Sandbox”, allowing the famous island to welcome international visitors who have been vaccinated without quarantine. However, on July 30th, the government announced the isolation of the island from the rest of Thailand.

Under the “Phuket Sandbox” program, vaccinated tourists can visit the island without quarantine but must stay in Phuket for at least 14 days before moving to other areas of the country. All visitors must provide proof of entry, vaccination certificates, and negative RT-PCR test results.

However, according to the Bangkok Post, from August 3rd, tourists from other provinces will not be allowed to enter Phuket, while international tourists will not be significantly affected.

These new regulations are introduced as Covid-19 cases surge in Thailand. On July 28th, the country reported a record-high of 16,553 new positive cases, with only 5.6% of the population fully vaccinated. In Phuket, as of mid-July, over 60% of the population has received the vaccine.
