Thailand intends to extend the Songkran water festival for a month, elevating the event to international stature and placing the country on the list of the world's top 10 festival destinations.
Thailand is considering extending the Songkran water festival for a month.
Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Chairwoman of the National Soft Power Strategic Committee (NSPSC), announced on December 1 that the NSPSC agreed to promote Songkran – the water festival, as one of the most outstanding festivals in the world. The NSPSC plans to organize the Songkran water festival to welcome the new year for an entire month instead of 3 days as tradition.

Ms. Chadatip Chutrakul, CEO of Siam Piwat Group and Chair of the festival subcommittee, stated that they have planned over 10,000 events nationwide throughout 2024. Among them, the Songkran festival will be held on Rachadamnoen Avenue and other locations in Bangkok's old town. Additionally, provinces will also organize water festival events to promote their own traditions.
