The proposal to increase the minimum wage by 5.3% compared to the 2018 regional minimum wage was unanimously voted by members of the wage council. Therefore, according to the designated regions, in 2019, workers will experience changes in wages, increasing from 160 thousand dong to 200 dong/month/person. This increase will be submitted to the Government to decide on wage levels in the near future.
Previously, in the 2nd meeting, the National Wage Council could not reach a consensus on the 2019 regional minimum wage as there were still many opposing opinions. As Deputy Minister of Labor, Chairman of the National Wage Council - Mr. Doan Mau Diep stated, Representatives for labor proposed a 6.1% increase in the 2019 regional minimum wage compared to 2018, while representatives for employers (VCCI) proposed a maximum increase of 5.1%. Therefore, with these opposing opinions, the National Wage Council has proposed to finalize a 5.3% increase in the minimum wage for voting, as this is a level acceptable to both sides.
And in the 3rd meeting, 100% of the National Wage Council agreed and approved this increase. Specifically, the wage in Region 1 increased by 200,000 dong, Region 2 by 180,000 dong, Regions 3 and 4 had wage increases compared to 2018 at 160,000 dong. This means Region 1 increased to 4,180,000 dong, the minimum wage in Region 2 is 3,710,000 dong, the minimum wage in Region 3 is 3,250,000 dong, and Region 4 has a minimum wage of 2,950,000 dong.
