1. Aladdin (May 24)
Disney’s reboot of the Aladdin franchise, along with the magical genie lamp, has been a long-awaited project. Alongside The Lion King and Dumbo, Disney aimed to create a trilogy of live-action films that would rekindle the cherished memories of the 90s. Fans across generations were excited to see their favorite animated characters come to life with cutting-edge CGI technology. Early images of the movie, featured in Entertainment magazine, introduced us to the key characters: Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie, and the villainous Jafar. Disney had already seen success with live-action adaptations, including Cinderella (2015) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), so expectations for Aladdin were high. Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed exclusive images of Aladdin, the Genie, and Princess Jasmine.
Will Smith took on the role of the Genie. Unlike the animated version voiced by Robin Williams, this Genie is not larger-than-life compared to the two main characters and does not rely heavily on CGI effects. Director Guy Ritchie chose not to replicate the original animated film, opting instead to create something fresh and innovative while staying true to the essence of the story.
The live-action Aladdin featured a star-studded cast, including Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Will Smith (Genie), Billy Magnussen (Prince Anders), Nasim Pedrad (Dalia), Marwan Kenzari (Jafar), David Negahban (Sultan), and Numan Acar (Hakim). Along with Dumbo and The Lion King, Aladdin was one of the most anticipated live-action films of 2019. Beauty and the Beast had already achieved huge success, grossing $504 million domestically and $1.2 billion globally.

2. Toy Story 4 (June 21)
When Pixar’s Toy Story was released in late November 1995, it sparked a true revolution in animation. It was the first film to fully utilize computer-generated imagery (CGI) and the first 3D animated feature film ever made. It’s no surprise that Toy Story 1 (1995) and 2 (2000) were commercial successes, while Toy Story 3 (2010) touched hearts and brought tears to many viewers.
The first three Toy Story films revolved around themes of friendship, growing up, and moving to new places. By the end of Toy Story 3, it seemed like the journey for Woody, Buzz, and their friends had come to a natural conclusion. We had witnessed the full life cycle of these beloved toys, from cherished playthings to being put away in a box.
It seemed like the story had reached a satisfying end, but Pixar went ahead with Toy Story 4. This time, fans are in for a completely new emotional journey, one that promises to be even more touching than before. Pixar released the first trailer for Toy Story 4, building anticipation and curiosity among its devoted fans.
The trailer opens with familiar faces like Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie, who appear unchanged since their “retirement.” But suddenly, a completely new character is introduced—Forky, a toy made from a spork, which looks quite different from the others. With true toy-like eyes and arms made from pipe cleaners, Forky feels he doesn’t belong in the toy world and runs away in panic. Forky seems to play a crucial role in Toy Story 4, as the new toy belonging to Bonnie will lead Woody and the gang on an adventure to explore just how vast the world can be for a toy.
With its fresh, exciting premise, Toy Story 4 has generated great anticipation. Tom Hanks, who voices Woody, has praised the film and called the ending of the movie a “historic moment” that will bring overwhelming emotions and tears to the audience.
Although the full plot of Toy Story 4 remains a mystery, with insights from Tom Hanks and what the trailer has revealed, fans can hope for an explosive and unforgettable blockbuster. Toy Story 4 (Toy Story 4) is set to release on June 21, 2019.

3. The Lion King (July 19)

4. Artemis Fowl (August 9)

5. Frozen 2 (November 22)

6. Star Wars: Episode IX (December 20)

7. Captain Marvel (March 8)
Captain Marvel will officially hit theaters worldwide on March 8, 2019. This highly anticipated superhero film from Marvel Studios marks the first time the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) introduces a solo movie centered around a female hero. Captain Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson, was first teased in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. She is being marketed as the most powerful hero in the MCU, playing a key role in helping the Avengers reverse the tide against Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers 4.
Alongside familiar faces like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Ronan (Lee Pace), and Korath (Djimon Hounsou), Captain Marvel will also introduce a host of new characters. The fresh dynamic of these new characters, combined with the new direction brought by directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, offers a refreshing take on the MCU—especially as superhero origin stories begin to feel repetitive. The film also features Starforce, an elite group of space soldiers, of which Captain Marvel is a central member. However, much of the action in the new trailer seems to focus on Captain Marvel herself, suggesting Starforce may have a smaller role in the movie.
The plot of Captain Marvel is gradually coming into focus. The latest trailer reveals the ongoing war between the Skrull and Kree alien factions. The Skrulls are depicted as ruthless shape-shifters, while the Kree are noble warriors, although this description contrasts with the views of Ronan and Korath in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). The primary antagonist of the film is Talos, a Skrull, voiced by Ben Mendelsohn. However, there may be other forces at play behind him.

8. Dumbo (29/3)
Dumbo is a live-action remake of the 1941 animated classic, directed by Tim Burton. The story centers on a flying elephant named Dumbo. Heartwarming and sweet, Dumbo captured the hearts of many generations with its touching message about family, loss, a struggling circus, and a unique baby elephant who inspires those he meets along the way.
The teaser shows Colin Farrell as Holt Farrier, a war veteran who returns home to care for his two children and work at a struggling circus. The circus owner, Max Medici (Danny DeVito), buys a pregnant elephant, and Dumbo is born as a magical creature who, according to Farrell, has the power to "inspire goodness" in people.
Dumbo appears when Holt's children, Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins), explore a pile of straw. The teaser also features Colette Marchant (Eva Green) performing acrobatics on ropes, a glimpse of Dumbo as a pink balloon elephant (a nod to the iconic pink elephant dream sequence from the original animated film), and a scene of Dumbo standing center stage at the circus with his oversized ears, while the audience cheers. All of this unfolds to the familiar tune of "Baby Mine," sung by Norwegian artist Aurora. Dumbo will take flight in theaters on March 29, 2019.

9. Avengers: Endgame (26/4)
The blockbuster Avengers: Endgame was recently screened by Marvel for a select audience. The response has been so positive that it’s been reported that viewers were so captivated by the film that none of them wanted to leave their seats for the entire 3-hour runtime, not wanting to miss a single moment of the action. With just over two months until its global release, the film is set to be one of the most anticipated events of 2019, following the massive success of Infinity War.
Following the deadly snap of the villain Thanos in the previous film, the Avengers must now find a way to overcome their defeat and prepare for one final showdown. Endgame will also mark the end of an incredibly successful phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with many beloved characters like Iron Man and Captain America possibly making their final appearances, paving the way for a new era in the MCU. The buzz surrounding the film is massive, with everyone talking about it and entertainment outlets covering it daily.
In an exciting reveal, the directors of Endgame have confirmed that it will surpass Infinity War in length, making it the longest superhero film in Marvel’s history at a runtime of 3 hours. This news has only added to the anticipation among fans.
The film’s test screenings have been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback, with reports that some viewers were so engrossed they didn’t even dare leave the theater for a bathroom break. According to Collider, directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that 3 out of 4 theaters had zero audience members using the restrooms, a first in cinematic history, proving just how engaging every moment of the film is. Avengers: Endgame will be released on April 26, 2019.
