An unexpected cold snap on March 2nd at Huntington Beach, Southern California, USA, left tourists astonished as the area turned into an exciting snow slide. The sky abruptly darkened, rain swept through, then burst into light again, revealing a layer of snow blanketing the entire beach.

Sumo Sato, who came to Huntington Beach for surfing, remarked: “Everyone here is amazed, from the beach to the main road or the highway along the beach, all covered in snow. This is really bizarre to me”.
Mike Watkins – a staff member at the National Weather Service – confirmed that the small white pellets falling were not snow but hail. Mike Beuerlein, a longtime resident, said: “I can't tell the difference between snow and hail, but this scene is just like a Christmas morning”.
Witnessing this rare natural phenomenon, many tourists later ran to the beach to frolic in the snow-like mass, lying down to make snow angels or shaping figures out of the snow/hail pellets.
