Inspired by the iconic Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet, the G-Shock GA-2100 has made a significant impact since its release in 2019, blending G-Shock's trademark boldness with the timeless elegance of the classic octagonal design. Introducing new color variations, it offers youthful and versatile options suitable for everyday wear across all age groups. It has even sparked a community of watch enthusiasts, with steel, titanium, or precious metal bracelet cases, transforming the GA-2100 into a true vintage sports timepiece. Thus, the nickname “CasioAk” was coined by the online community and widely embraced.
However, it's only now that the renowned GA-2100, which has been popular for several years, has received a major update from Casio in the form of the GA-B2100 model. True to its name abbreviation, this new version boasts Bluetooth connectivity with Casio's smartphone app, G-SHOCK Connected, enabling instant time synchronization at the traveler's destination or workplace, eliminating the need to manually adjust the time like other watches. Additionally, the watch face now acts as a solar panel, absorbing sunlight and converting this energy into a current to recharge the watch battery, rather than requiring a battery replacement every few years like the previous GA-2100 model.
Furthermore, all the basic features such as stopwatch, alarm, date display, and the functionalities inherent in the GA-2100 are present in the GA-B2100. The watch remains water-resistant up to 200m, allowing divers to explore comfortably even in environments without sunlight, thanks to the NeoBrite luminous coating on its two analog hands and the Super Illuminator LED display.
One of the most impressive aspects of the GA-B2100 that Casio has achieved is the slim profile of the watch. Despite incorporating the two highly convenient features described above, the watch has only increased in thickness by a mere 0.1mm, now measuring at 11.9mm compared to the non-Bluetooth, non-solar charging GA-2100 variant's 11.8mm. According to Casio, this new model weighs just 1 gram more than its predecessor, with no change in dimensions.
The anticipated release of the 5 new CasioAk models with Bluetooth and Tough Solar capabilities is scheduled for June, still maintaining the unchanged price of $150 for four variants in moss green, black, gray, and navy blue. However, the dazzling gold variant depicted in the image will be priced $10 higher.According to Hodinkee
