As production for Loki Season 2 begins, Disney confirms that all the actors from the first season will be part of the new installment.
Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Sophie Di Martino are all gearing up to return for Loki Season 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This update comes from Jason Lynch, an editor at Adweek, during Disney's '2022 Upfronts' event. According to Lynch, Loki is the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+, and the upcoming season will feature the entire cast from the first season.
Created by Michael Waldron, the writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki premiered on Disney+ in June 2021. It's the third MCU series following Jac Schaeffer's WandaVision and Malcolm Spellman's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The storyline revolves around the notorious trickster god (Hiddleston) who, after stealing the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, gets apprehended by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a mysterious organization tasked with handling issues across the universe.
The series has received praise from both critics and superhero fans, earning nominations and significant awards in the entertainment industry. It was nominated for Best Science Fiction Television Series at the Dragon Awards and won the People's Choice Award in 2021. Loki is currently in the running for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2022. The winners will be announced on September 4.
Loki's time-traveling adventures across multiple universes have had profound repercussions for the MCU as a whole, significantly influencing the storyline of other major franchises. The second installment of Loki is scheduled to start filming on June 6 at Pinewood Studios in London, United Kingdom.
While the cast of the first season is returning, there have been some changes in the creative team. Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who also directed two episodes of Moon Knight, will be part of this project. Most notably, Waldron will not be involved in writing, and Eric Martin will take over this position for Loki Season 2.
