Unexpectedly spotting the colossal, uniquely pink stingray, Inspector Clouseau, in Australia while underwater photographer captures its images.
The only pink stingray, Inspector Clouseau, makes a unique appearance in Australia
While diving off the southern coast of Australia, near the Great Barrier Reef, photographer Kristian Laine encountered a remarkably pink stingray.

Known as the only pink stingray species in the world, residing in the Great Barrier Reef, it measures 11 feet (3.3 m) and is aptly named after the fictional detective Inspector Clouseau from The Pink Panther series. It typically roams the waters around Lady Elliot Island, Australia, and is the only pink stingray globally. Inspector Clouseau has been spotted less than 10 times since its first sighting in 2015.

Stingrays usually display three primary colors: black, white, and a combination of both. Their predominant coloration remains this combination. The exact reason why Inspector Clouseau has such a uniquely pink coloration is still a mystery to scientists.
Experts in Australia speculate that this 3.4m-long stingray may carry a rare genetic mutation, causing its entire body to glow in a vibrant pink hue.
