The Nghinh Ong Festival, also known as the 'Quan Thanh De Quan's Pilgrimage,' occurs every two years in even-numbered Gregorian years, such as this year, 2022. This is a highly remarkable festival for the people of the coastal region of Phan Thiet!

The Remarkable Nghinh Ong Festival in the Coastal Area of Phan Thiet
The organizers of the festival have laid out plans for the 13th edition of the 'Quan Thanh De Quan's Pilgrimage' in Phan Thiet city in 2022, spanning 3 days from August 18th to 20th (July 21st to 23rd in the lunar calendar).

The Nghinh Ong Festival in Phan Thiet is divided into two parts. The ceremonial part takes place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on August 18th (corresponding to July 21st in the lunar calendar) with the procession of the Bà Thiên Hậu Palanquin at Thiên Hậu Palace in Phú Long town. On the second day (August 19th, corresponding to July 22nd in the lunar calendar), there will be the release of 100 swallows at Quan De Temple, followed by rituals such as the noon ceremony, real ceremony, and boat releasing at Phan Thiet fishing port...

The main event of the Nghinh Ong Festival is the street procession, starting at 5:00 AM on August 20th. The participants in the Nghinh Ong procession include the Quan De Temple delegation and escorting guilds (Phuoc Kien Assembly Hall, Quang Dong Assembly Hall, Chiu Chow Assembly Hall, Hoi Nam Assembly Hall).

The parade vividly portrays images of folk cultural characters such as fairies, deities, the master-disciple duo Tang Monk, Bao Gong, and the God of Prosperity. Multiple youth teams from guilds harmonize traditional musical instruments, perform lion and dragon dances, and notably showcase the record-breaking Green Dragon performance in Vietnam featuring a 60m-long dragon.

This is one of the distinctive festivals of the people in Phan Thiet, where the majority engage in seafaring professions, intimately connected with the sea. The aspiration for national peace, favorable weather, and a peaceful, prosperous life is a shared sentiment among both fishermen, seeking safe sea voyages and bountiful catches, and festival participants.
