Margot Robbie confirms the cancellation of the female-led 'Pirates of the Caribbean' project after discussions.
Two years have elapsed since Disney announced a female-centric Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Margot Robbie, yet the project has been shelved.
In a Vanity Fair interview, Robbie disclosed she's no longer involved with this Disney venture as the lead.
'We brainstormed and began development some time ago. It seemed like an intriguing storyline, but it appears the interest in moving forward has waned,' shared the 32-year-old actress.

Robbie also noted that Disney's proposal for a female-led Pirates of the Caribbean aimed to spotlight more female leads. However, this did not mean sidelining male characters but enhancing the plot with more engaging narratives. The reasons for its cancellation remain undisclosed.
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has bolstered Disney's coffers with over $4.5 billion in revenue since its 2003 debut with 'The Curse of the Black Pearl'.
In the saga, Johnny Depp's iconic portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow was central. However, following a shift in direction, Disney chose Margot Robbie to pioneer a female iteration of the character.
