Hong Lou Meng is among the highly anticipated Chinese films in the latter half of 2023, marking the iconic return of a Chinese cinematic masterpiece to the big screen after 46 years. However, upon revealing official images, the film immediately sparked numerous negative reactions from viewers due to the cast deviating significantly from the envisioned characters.

Specifically, after the first trailer, the audience was incredibly disappointed as the characters' beauty, portrayal, and even costumes were far from appealing. In previous adaptations of Hong Lou Meng, even those featuring child actors, both male and female main characters had attractive appearances, if not breathtaking. However, in this film version, none of the main characters exude the charm expected.

Despite being just a trailer, the cast has already shattered the iconic images of familiar names like Lam Dai Ngoc, Gia Bao Ngoc, Tiet Bao Thoa, making the audience feel like they are watching an entirely different script. Some comments state: 'Gia Bao Ngoc lacks the aura of a wealthy young man, Lam Dai Ngoc doesn't look like a female literary talent, Tiet Bao Thoa doesn't embody the essence of a woman, Gia's mother looks like one of those girls dancing in the square, Vuong Hi Phuong looks like a volunteer in the neighborhood, Gia Nguyen Xuan looks too inexperienced...'.

After watching the trailer, many viewers concur that Quan Hieu Dong, portraying Gia Nguyen Xuan, possesses the most captivating appearance. Despite her costume and portrayal not standing out, her face is slightly youthful compared to the character. However, according to the cast list, Quan Hieu Dong has only a minimal supporting role or even a bland guest appearance. It seems like Quan Hieu Dong doesn't have the chance to 'carry the visual' of this film.
