Singapore's Changi Airport has just opened its fourth terminal, capable of serving an additional 16 million passengers annually.
Changi International Airport celebrates the completion of its new Terminal 4
On the morning of October 31st, Changi International Airport in Singapore inaugurated its Fourth Terminal (T4), welcoming the first flight from Cathay Pacific flying from Hong Kong and landing at 5:15 a.m.

Nine Asian airlines will also be relocating to T4, starting with Cathay Pacific and Korean Air. By the end of the first day of operation, approximately 4,200 passengers from 19 flights had arrived here.
Once all nine airlines have completed their transition to T4, approximately 3,000 airport staff will be serving here.
The construction of this new terminal has been a long-term plan, first announced in 2012. Prior to this, the area was dedicated to budget airlines' terminals, but was demolished at the end of 2012 to make way for Terminal 4.

Terminal 4 has a construction cost of $985 million Singapore dollars, capable of serving 16 million passengers per year. With this, Changi Airport can now accommodate 82 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in the world. Terminal 4 covers an area of approximately 225,000 square meters.
Passengers will experience various new entertainment features when passing through Terminal 4, such as a 70-meter-long giant LED screen for entertainment programs while waiting. Inside the terminal, there is also a Heritage Zone for passengers to explore traditional cuisine and purchase local souvenirs. Here, passengers can also enjoy live music performances titled Peranakan Love Story. Additionally, Terminal 4 has 62 retail stores and 19 restaurants.

This new terminal is one of two major projects at Changi International Airport. The other project is called Project Jewel, designed as a giant glass dome connecting Terminals 1, 2, and 3 via a glass walkway. This project is expected to be completed by early 2019. Singapore is also building a fifth terminal at Changi scheduled to open in 2025, accommodating an additional 50 million passengers, bringing the total to 135 million.
Changi International Airport was voted the world's best airport in 2017 in the World Airport Awards by Skytrax. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Changi Airport has received this award.
