Standing at a height of 69m, the Great Buddha Statue at Ong Nui Pagoda is considered the tallest Buddha statue in Southeast Asia today.
After more than 2 years of construction, the Great Buddha Statue at Ong Nui Pagoda in Cat Tien commune, Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province has been substantially completed and opened to the public for visitation and worship.
According to Binh Dinh newspaper, this project commenced in 2009 and was divided into multiple phases. The initial phase of the project included 4 major constructions, which were completed in 2016. It included the key structure of the Thich Ca Mau Ni Buddha statue. According to the Management Board of the Spiritual Project of Buddhist Teaching Linh Phong, the Thich Ca Mau Ni Buddha statue stands at a height of 69m, including the 15m high pedestal; all of which are cast from reinforced concrete on-site.
The statue of Lord Buddha sits atop a lotus tower, halfway up the mountain, at a height of 129m above sea level, overlooking the East Sea, with its back against the highest peak in the Nui Ba relic complex. Beneath the statue are the Buddhist Teaching Center and the Arhat corridor, Buddhist library, and the Xa Loi Phat Museum, where visitors can come to worship and pay their respects.
