Unnamed hackers have announced possession of personal data belonging to approximately 1 billion Chinese citizens. Security experts assert that if the hackers' claim is accurate, this would constitute the worst security breach in the history of the populous nation. The data, totaling 23 terabytes, includes real names, addresses, places of birth, ID numbers, phone numbers, as well as medical information and criminal records of numerous individuals. To acquire such vast amounts of data, the hacker group targeted the resident information database of the Shanghai police force.
