Today, the oppressive haze in Singapore has vanished, leaving the island nation with much clearer skies than in previous days.
The pollution index at 10 a.m. on June 23 was at 101, whereas two days ago, it reached a record high of 401. Tourists can now comfortably admire the iconic Merlion of Singapore without the thick haze obstructing their view.
Unfortunately for the people of Malaysia, the thick haze that blanketed the skies of Singapore a few days ago seems to have drifted northward. Skyscrapers in the capital city Kuala Lumpur were enveloped in smoke, and residents had to wear masks.
And the situation in the capital is not even the worst. In the southern regions of Johor state, pollution levels reached a staggering 750. Meanwhile, any pollution index above 100 is considered unhealthy.
The Environment Minister of this country had to declare a state of emergency in the affected areas.
