After residing in Vietnam for 4 years, Maan and his brother launched a spot offering rolls stuffed with egg, cheese, and chicken, priced at 55,000 dong each.
The Indian Guy's Roll Joint in Hanoi
The Eat List eatery, located at 23 Hang Thiec, Hanoi, was opened by 28-year-old Maan four months ago, specializing in Indian cuisine. Maan, who has spent 4 years in Vietnam and is married to a Vietnamese woman, had previously operated a restaurant in Vung Tau. 'I opened the restaurant out of my passion for cooking. This is the first establishment offering egg cheese chicken rolls in Hanoi,' he revealed.

This type of cake is a popular Indian snack known as Kathi Roll. The cake crust, made from wheat flour, is rolled flat and thin. Initially, the cake crust is placed on a hot pan with a little oil, then cheese and eggs are thinly spread on top. Once cooked, the cake crust is placed on silver paper, then topped with chicken curry with potatoes and bell peppers, lettuce, shredded green cabbage, shredded purple cabbage, tomato sauce, chili sauce, and tightly rolled. Maan typically spends 3 hours daily preparing the ingredients.
Before rolling, the owner will ask customers if they prefer it spicy or not. 'I had to tweak the recipe a bit, reducing the spiciness and curry flavor to suit the Vietnamese palate,' he mentioned.
The rolled cake, when rolled, is the size of a sandwich and cut in half. When you take a bite, the succulent meat sauce and melted cheese blend together, offering a rich, creamy flavor that melts in your mouth. The curry sauce is not too strong and doesn't overpower the other ingredients. The tenderly cooked chicken, paired with a variety of vegetables, is perfectly balanced and not overwhelming. The outer layer of the cake is soft, with a fragrant egg aroma. Typically, one person only needs to eat half of the cake for lunch. Priced at 55,000 dong per piece.
Many customers have commented that the dish is exotic and perfect for a lunchtime change. Additionally, when you visit the restaurant, you can try Indian chicken rice and ginger milk tea. The restaurant has a narrow space, with room for 4 table sets inside and 2 table sets outside on the sidewalk. The kitchen area for kneading dough, baking, and rolling is located near the entrance, allowing customers to observe the baking process.
