Microsoft announced a unified Office app for mobile devices at the 2019 Ignite conference. The app made its way to iOS and Android platforms in February 2020. It serves as a unified solution not only for working with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files but also for PDFs, providing features like file transfer between PC and mobile devices.
Office for iPhone and iPad now supports the HEIC file format for file transfer and a voice input feature.
The iOS version of the app is receiving a new update, including notable features such as added support for HEIC (High Efficiency Image File Format) in the file transfer feature, a Dictate feature for voice input in Word files, and multiple selection options for images in the app's Media tab.
The Office app for iOS has been updated with specific features as follows:
- Selecting multiple images in the Media tab: Easily choose multiple images in the Media tab to perform desired actions.
- HEIC file transfer: Added support for HEIC files in the file transfer feature of the Office app.
- Voice data input: Opt for Dictate and let Word transcribe your speech into text.
The added features are subtle, aiming to enhance the user experience for iOS users. The Dictate feature is a welcomed addition for users utilizing accessibility options on Word. It proves handy when users want to quickly convert spoken words into text for a document. HEIC file support is also deemed convenient as iOS devices use this format for images.
iOS users can access the App Store to download the Office app or check for updates. The update might not be immediately available to all users, but it will roll out to all devices in the coming days.
