(Homeland) - Clearly, the success of The Last of Us television adaptation has left numerous gamers exhilarated.
In the past, there has been much criticism surrounding the adaptation of games into television programs. One of the main reasons cited is that fans feel the adaptation struggles to accurately capture the story and meaning of the respective games. However, HBO has changed this perception with the resounding success of The Last of Us. So much so that, at this point, many fans have listed a slew of other blockbusters with the hope that HBO will continue to adapt these games into television series.
Gone Home
Everyone loves mysterious games, and Gone Home is one of the finest examples of this genre. This first-person perspective game tells the story of Katie, a young woman who returns home after studying abroad only to find her entire family missing. The game then follows Katie's journey to explore her home and unravel what happened to the remaining family members.
Gone Home itself has received numerous praises since its release and has a solid foundation to make an excellent television adaptation on HBO. While it's likely that the plot will need some additional twists to stand out, Katie is undoubtedly a character with great potential.
God of War
Certainly, God of War will be a name that appears frequently on this list. With over 15 different games in the franchise, the rich content of God of War provides more than enough material for directors to showcase their talent in adapting it into a television series.
HBO itself has already found considerable success in the fantasy genre, with Game of Thrones being the clearest evidence. The tales of Greek and Norse mythology, along with Kratos' remarkable journey in God of War, are sure to be fantastic raw material for a television adaptation.
Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed has become a beloved electronic game franchise since the release of its first game in 2007. From then until now, the fan base of Assassin's Creed has steadily grown. With its action-oriented stealth gameplay and challenging assassination missions, Assassin's Creed has plenty of room to become a television masterpiece.
If HBO is on the lookout for the next adaptation, Assassin's Creed should undoubtedly be on their radar, as the brand name alone is likely a reliable factor for success in viewer ratings.
