Tran Thi Trung Thu's entry for the 'Discover Freedom' writing and photo album contest, sharing her solo journey in India.
Startled, opposed, and even threatened to quit when I announced my solo trip to India, covering 6 cities: New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, Amritsar, and Mumbai. Solo travel in India, passing through cities known for their notorious reputation, was truly 'dangerous' for a single, physically vulnerable girl. Especially with fair skin, I stood out, becoming the focal point everywhere I went. I explored the customs of the places I traversed, avoiding actions that could lead to danger, and just kept moving. The world before me unfolded, and India is a truly different and enchanting country compared to all the countries I've visited (Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia...). From the streets, food to the people, I was captivated, and it dawned on me that I had fallen in love with India.
