The creator of champions like Viego, Senna, and Jhin - Riot August, recently unveiled plans for an extraordinary new Jungle champion.
In recent years, Riot has tended to design their League of Legends champions to be restricted to specific roles. Riot's balancing direction often limits new champions to predefined roles, swiftly nerfing them if they excel in unintended positions.
For instance, champions like Renata Glasc are designated for Support, while Vex is consistently seen in the Mid lane. Past champions like Gwen and Viego, initially strong in multiple positions, were nerfed and are now effective in only one role. This pattern may continue with the upcoming Void Jungle champion teased by Riot since early 2022.
However, Riot Games seems poised to break this pattern, as the Lead Champion Designer - Riot August, recently revealed work on a champion designed to be played in various positions. Riot August even shared that this champion is conceptualized to be powerful with any build, whether it's an AD, AP, or tanky setup.
Riot August: 'Oh, the new Jungle champion I'm working on is truly amazing! It's also incredibly balanced!'
Afterward, I transformed it into a champion fit for Top, Mid, Support, and ADC roles, excelling with any in-game item build.
It's uncertain whether this is a serious announcement, but if true, this new character will be the first champion designed to play in every position in League of Legends. If this becomes a reality, it will spark a true sensation, as Riot would have to shape this character into an all-around powerhouse. This seems to go against Riot's criteria for champion balance.
So, it's highly likely that Riot August's aforementioned announcement is just a playful remark, and he won't create a 'jack-of-all-trades' champion like that. However, the future of that champion is also hard to predict, as in the past, Viego was an extremely potent Top, Jungle, and Mid lane champion upon release.
