Being born and raised in Hanoi, it's no surprise that I hold a deep affection for this thousand-year-old cultured land. Despite traveling to numerous places and experiencing different regions, none have made me feel as nostalgic as this city.
Perhaps every return to Hanoi fills me with an unusual excitement. Like now, sitting on the plane and gazing at the radiant lights below, an indescribable joy wells up in my heart. Memories with this piece of land stretch endlessly in my mind. Anticipation builds as I await the moment the plane touches down, and I spot in the distance the sign 'Noi Bai International Airport.' That moment, I know I'm home!Stepping off the plane, blending into the bustling crowd, I feel myself immersed in the lively yet warmly familiar atmosphere of Hanoi after a long year of separation. In this moment, Hanoi is in the late days of autumn, with temperatures no longer scorching but replaced by a cool breeze, urging people to quickly return home and reunite with their families. During the journey home, every second is spent reminiscing about a gentle and warm Hanoi autumn.1. The tranquil evening glow over West Lake
For me, nothing is more serene and picturesque than the calm water surface of West Lake as the evening sets in. The sun's gentle rays cascade down onto the lake, embracing every scene and person in the soft light of the day's end.
As if 'it' wants to caress, to shelter, to share the burdens of life. Perhaps, people (myself included) often seek this space for tranquility, to temporarily forget the daily worries of life.
2. The autumn breeze in Hanoi's whimsical touch
By many accounts, what I adore most about Hanoi's autumn, and foremost among them, is the whimsical touch of the chilly breezes as autumn arrives. The gentle winds, not harsh enough to chill one to the bone but carrying enough nostalgia to draw people together, swiftly leading them back home to cozy up with family.
3. Red Bombax Flowers painting a corner of the Hồ Gươm sky
Initially, I didn't even know the names of those trees, only recognizing that every autumn they burst into brilliant red blooms, painting a corner of the Hồ Gươm sky. The flower-laden branches swaying in the wind create a captivating scene. After every rain, the fallen flowers create an irresistibly beautiful 'carpet.' Naturally, these Bombax trees enhance the beauty of Hồ Gươm in the autumn, not just with the golden hue of the trees but also with the vibrant red of the flowers. And truth be told, without an early school break and a leisurely morning bike ride, I might never have known Hồ Gươm to be this beautiful.4. The ancient corners of Old Quarter aging gracefully with time
Being born and raised in Hanoi, I have always been enamored by the charming moss-covered ancient streets, the '36 streets' frequently mentioned in poems. These streets become even more beautiful in Hanoi's autumn - the season of changing leaves. The yellowing leaves gracefully fall around Hoan Kiem Lake and throughout the winding streets, adding a newfound romance to the old quarter.
5. The roving street vendors bustling through every alley
Hanoi in my eyes is also the wandering street vendors, traversing every road, from the grand avenues to the tricky narrow alleys. It's not the items on display that leave an impression but rather the radiant smiles of the women selling their goods.Running a street stall might be tiresome, walking like that may not be too exhausting, but these ladies are always cheerful, always welcoming. So, there are times when I'm not hungry but still find myself drawn to their stalls because I've already fallen for the genuine smiles.6. Long Bien Bridge navigating through the ups and downs with Hanoi's weather
Perhaps Long Bien Bridge is my favorite spot in Hanoi, especially when seeking a serene place, wanting to find a bit of warmth in moments of solitude. In reality, this 'humble' place only has hills, fields, stretches of cornfields, and carefree children playing. Yet, it strangely brings a sense of reassurance to people.Ascending the bridge at night is always an intriguing experience that I've tried many times. Everything seems like it was just yesterday as I sit there, savoring roasted corn and gazing at the shadowy trains flickering through the night.Hanoi's autumn in my perspective is simple, humble, yet incredibly beautiful. I wonder if this time back, I'll gather more memories with this unassuming capital? If I do, I'll share them with you in the next part.As for you, if you're eager to visit Hanoi this autumn, then book a flight to Hanoi right away. I'm in Hanoi now, so I can guide you through this ancient city. Farewell for now, as my ride has arrived at my doorstep!
