According to New York Poót, in an interview, Mark Ruffalo expressed fear about being too old for intimate scenes with Emma Stone in Poor Things (the wildest, steamiest film of 2023, according to Decider).
'I don't know if I can pull it off. I've never done a film like Poor Things. I'm too old for continuous steamy scenes. I wonder if anyone wants to see me naked?' the actor said.
The actor, known for portraying Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admits hesitance when it comes to shooting hot scenes for director Yorgos Lanthimos. The director requested him to wear butt pads for a fuller figure.
'I kept questioning if I really needed to do that. Who wants to look at my aging body? Maybe I shouldn't take on these kinds of films anymore,' the actor continued.
Mark Ruffalo reveals that intimate scenes are his least favorite part as an actor but essential for Poor Things. 'Actually, the film needs steamy scenes due to the character's psychology. Looking back, I find it quite intriguing,' he added.
Poor Things is based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair. The story revolves around Bella Baxter (played by Emma Stone), a woman who died and is resurrected by a mad scientist by implanting the brain of an infant into her head.
After escaping and meeting Duncan Wedderburn (played by Mark Ruffalo), a quirky lawyer, the two engage in wild sexual encounters. According to Decider, the film features daring intimate scenes, even dubbed the steamiest film of 2023.
Poor Things received 7 nominations and won two awards, including Outstanding Musical/Comedy Film and Outstanding Actress in a Musical/Comedy Film (Emma Stone). Earlier, the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review included the hot and steamy film in their list of the top 10 films of 2023.
