The Most Versatile Successor in Medium Format - Hasselblad 907X with CFV 100C
Iconic in the contemporary era, Hasselblad introduces a recent 'update' named CFV 100C featuring an impressive 100MP resolution and compatibility with all the brand's lenses. In reality, I refer to it as an update because enthusiasts can still utilize the 907X modular assembly introduced in 2019. However, instead of the CFV II 50C sensor, it now features the brand new CFV 100C. Hasselblad proudly labels this as one of their smartest, most flexible designs ever created. When assembled, this camera's usability mirrors the legendary Hasselblad 500 Series or the Hasselblad 200 from the past, providing a waist-level viewfinder for intriguing perspectives (later models with flip screens will make this easier), akin to the renowned photographer Vivian Maier.
Unlike traditional film cameras, the Hasselblad 907X, when combined with CFV 100C, offers autofocus capabilities through phase detection (PDAF) and face detection (similar to the latest X2D 100C update two months ago). It features 294 phase-detection points covering 97% of the image.Internally, it's naturally top-notch (similar to X2D 100C) with a 1TB built-in memory (integrated SSD) and support for CFexpress Type B cards (single slot) up to 512GB. The maximum speed is 3.3 frames per second (14-bit color). The major upgrade is the 100MP CMOS sensor (up from 50MP), with a resolution of 11,656 x 8,742, sized at 43.8 x 32.9 mm and a crop factor of 0.78X.In AF-S (single) mode, you can capture 16-bit RAW images with a base ISO of 64 and a maximum of 25,600, offering 15 stops on the CFV 100C. The TFT 3.2-inch screen displays 24-bit color, 2.36 million pixels, and provides tilt angles of 40 and 90 degrees. According to the Swedish manufacturer, you can capture up to 420 photos with this combo. In terms of appearance, the Hasselblad 907X remains unchanged, but the CFV 100C weighs 460 grams and measures 91 x 92 x 61 mm. When combined, this combo is 120 grams lighter than the previous 907X and CFV 50C, making the 907X with CFV 100C the smallest and lightest high-resolution (100MP) medium format camera today. This combo lacks both OVF and EVF. If needed, you can attach an external viewfinder, as shown in the image below—simply stunning. And, of course, a detachable grip is an essential accessory when using cameras like the 907X (opt for a vintage-style grip for that extra flair). When it comes to lenses, no need to say much. Except for the original SWC, all V-mount lenses from Hassy since 1957 and lenses XCD, HC/HCD, and Xpan are compatible with this combo. The price tag for this package is $8,200 and it's readily available in stock.
