As part of the cave overhaul, Mojang is bringing lakes, tunnels, caverns, waterfalls, and more to these underground realms. Other cave-related additions announced at the event include at least 2 new types of minerals: copper and geode, along with the hostile mob Warden and the friendly mob Axolotl.
Meanwhile, on the Cliffs side of the update, Mojang once again enhances mountains with snow-capped peaks and perilous crevasses. Mountain goats also make an appearance as a new mob, residing on mountain slopes and butting heads with players given the chance.
While more details about the major update will be unveiled in the future, other additions announced include the new Sculk Sensor block, essentially allowing players to create wireless Redstone structures. The specific release date for the Caves and Cliffs update has not been officially disclosed, but Mojang plans to release it in the summer of 2021.
The studio also revealed that the action RPG Minecraft Dungeons will receive another DLC pack named Howling Peaks in December along with a new Season Pass, while cross-play functionality will be activated through a free update in November.
